The download site of the infamous Firefox add-on “Pirates of Amazon” which offers users a download link to pirated copies of products from The Pirate Bay when you visit Amazon online store is offline now illustrated with a sinking ship.

After installed, the add-on will add “Down 4 Free” button into the Amazon product page when the same title is also available at The Pirate Bay.

The Pirate Bay, however, has no relation with the add-on owners. “We are not affiliated with The Pirate Bay, and do not host or even link to any illegal content,” they say. “This artistic project addresses the topic of current media distribution models vs. current culture and technical possibilities.

This is not the first add-on to create mashup of legal sites with BitTorrent trackers, however, site owners may see that it is impractical to block such attempts for those who want to find illegal copies of ebooks, movies, MP3s or games can easily find out how to get them via BitTorrent this way or another.

Though, according to developers of the add-on, the project aims to “be a counterpart to the current models of media distribution“, and to “redistribute the wealth” its Robin Hood’s style will be hardly welcome today when piracy is concerned a huge problem for digital industry.
