Blizzard reported they has sold 2.8 million copies of Wrath of Lich King, the second extension of the world’s most popular MMO World of Warcraft (WoW), in 24 hours breaking all-time record for the fastest selling PC game. And at $40 a copy, the company would have taken home $112 million on the first day.
“We’re grateful for the incredible support that players around the world have continued to show for WoW. Wrath of the Lich King contains some of the best content we’ve created for the game so far, and we look forward to seeing even more players log in to experience it in the days ahead.” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.
The expansion pack opens up the frigid realm of Northrend, home of Lich King, to explore, and adds the new playable Death Knight class. It also raises the game’s level cap from 70 to 80. There are currently more than 11 million WoW players worldwide and it is predicted that as many as half might upgrade to Lich King.
