In the next few days current users of Google’s Chrome will automatically receive another beta update, version 0.4.154.25, but new users can immediately download the new release from Chrome official site now.
Chrome’s latest beta will, apart from bug fixes, introduce new features like better bookmark manager and enhanced privacy control.
The new book manager will allow user searching bookmarks, creating folders and drag-n-dropping bookmarks to new locations, according to Mark Larson, Google Chrome Program Manager.
Other important updates focus on Web privacy giving users better control of data they want to send data to another service. “It groups together all of the configuration options for features that might send data to another service,” Larson revealed.
Larson also pointed out another improvement made to Chrome is pop-up blocker, which had minimized pop-up windows on the lower right corner of the browser window, now just displays one small notification in the corner that shows the number of blocked pop-ups, and a menu on the notification lets users open a specific pop-up, if needed.
Furthermore, the latest beta release fixes a security flaw that allowed downloaded HTML files to access other files on the user’s PC, and even send them over the net. “We now prevent local files from connecting to the network and also prompt you to confirm a download if it is an HTML file,” Larson confirmed.
This is, said, the latest beta upgrade for Chrome which is expected to launch officially in early 2009 for Windows platform. Mac and Linux versions are planned to debut in the first half of next year.
